Hitting the slopes is a great way to get outside and stay active during the winter months.  Luckily, here in Maryland, we are just a short drive away from some incredible skiing and tubing opportunities.

Whitetail Ski Resort

Located in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, Whitetail Ski Resort offers twenty trails, eight lifts, and a vertical drop of 935 feet.  The resort recently made over $4 million dollars in improvements including: a new 1,800-foot beginner trail, additional snowmaking capacity, upgrades to the Marketplace dining area, a new Prinoth BR350 Snow Groomer, and a new golfer friendly clubhouse is under construction.

Ski Roundtop

Ski Roundtop is located near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Activities at Ski Roundtop include skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and Revolution Paintball. Ski Roundtop is the sister ski area to Ski Liberty. Ski Roundtop is owned by Snow Time, Inc. which also owns Whitetail Mountain Resort in Mercersburg, PA, Liberty Mountain Resort in Fairfield, PA and Ski Windham in New York. Season passes are good at all three Pennsylvania ski resorts and special benefits are available for Ski Windham as well.

Ski Roundtop is a popular place to learn to ski and offers lessons, equipment rentals, packages for kids and adults, and camp programs.  Snow Tubing is a great way to experience the fun of winter and requires no lessons or skills. Roundtop features 14 tubing lanes for ages 5 and older. There’s even a special kiddie tubing area for ages 4 and under. The Mountain View Lodge features a variety of food and drink, cozy fireplaces and views of the mountain.

Ski Liberty

Located in Fairfield, Pennsylvania, Ski Liberty is just 8 miles southwest of historic Gettysburg. It has 16 trails and three terrain parks, serviced by nine lifts, with complete snow-making coverage. Amenities include snow tubing, lessons, equipment rental, child-care center, and restaurants and bars. A new hotel and conference opened onsite in 2015.

Wisp Ski Resort

Located in McHenry, Maryland, Wisp is Maryland’s only ski resort and is near Deep Creek Lake in Garrett County. The resort offers a wide range of winter activities including skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, outdoor ice skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and sleigh rides. There are seven chairlifts, five surface lifts and four freestyle parks. The area is one of the most scenic in the state and makes a great getaway destination.
